10 Eye Popping, Jaw Dropping Ad Copy Secrets

Copyright 2005 Richard Meredith

1. Use a hand written letter on your ad copy instead of text.
Write the ad on a piece of paper, scan it and publish the ad on your web page. Adding a personal touch will always increase your sales.

2. Publish a list of famous and respected customers who have bought from you on your a copy.
People will think that if these people bought from you, they should also trust your business and purchase your products. Make sure to get their permission first.

3. Show before and after photos for your products on your web page copy.
Show the problem picture and then beside it, show the picture of the resolution to the problem when they use your product.

4. Include an article or review that has been written about you or your business with your ad copy.
This will show people that your business is respected and will increase your credibility.

5. When you offer free bonuses in your ad copy, also list the dollar value beside each bonus.
People will feel they're getting a good deal and it will increase the value of your product.

6. Hire a famous person to endorse your product or service.
Make sure the person is well known to your target audience. Include their picture and statements on your ad copy.

7. Include your own picture on your ad copy.
This will show people that you're not hiding behind your ad copy and will increase their trust. Also, include your contact information below the picture and a brief statement or quote.

8. Tell your potential customers on your ad copy that you will donate a percentage of their purchase price to specific charity.
This will show them you really care about the people. They may just buy your product to donate to the charity.

9. Ask your potential customers plenty of yes and no questions in your ad copy.
The questions should remind them of their problem and make them think about what will happen if they don't purchase your
product.

10. Tell your potential customers they will receive a free prize if they find the five words in your ad copy that are misspelled or spelled backwards.
The longer you can keep someone reading your copy the greater chance of them purchasing.

Running Your Online Business

by: Jeremy Gislason

I had a very nice conversation with one of our members a while ago regarding her business. She has been in business for 11 years with her current company, which is a traditional business started long before the Internet came around.

She has been successful for those 11 years and is still doing very well. She started her online business several months ago with the same products as her traditional business. The problem was her online business was only costing her money and to date she has made no sales, but has spent over $1,500 in advertising and marketing--just for the online side of her business alone.

Here is a news flash. Business is Business! I do not care whether you are on the Internet or in a shopping mall. The same basic principles apply to both businesses.

  • You have a product
  • You need to advertise to get customers to buy your product.
  • You need to support your customers who buy your product from the advertising you did.
  • You need to build a loyal customer following, so you can maintain a profitable business.
Many people believe that because they are selling online that some of these steps can either be skipped or they need to go overboard in one area or another. Customer service on the Internet is for the most part--non-existent. Companies that tell you they will get back to you in 48 - 72 hours might as well tell you they are closed.

The bottom line regarding selling online, whether you have your own product or you are just going to focus on reselling affiliate programs, you will need to advertise, and you will need to take care of your clients.

There is no magic about online selling. As an example, our members purchased an ISOR membership for a reason and other people will purchase for similar reasons. We work very hard at ISORegister, Inc. to ensure our members and treated fairly. We provide toll-free phone numbers, 7-days a week support, we answer our emails the same day we receive them. These are a few of the things we do that 99% of the online companies do not.

You do not have to get your own toll-free phone number or work 7 days a week. What you do have to realize is that if you are reselling an affiliate program or your own product that you are in business for yourself.

You have a choice as to how you want to run your business. You can sit back and wait for sales to happen or you can go out and make sales happen. Run your home business like you expect to be treated by other businesses. Do not spam people; do not buy a bunch of worthless hits, do not pay someone to get you posted in the top search engines.

Run your new home business just like a real company because it is a real company and you have a real opportunity to be successful or to fail. The only difference between an online business and a traditional business is location and in some cases inventory. Everything else is about the same. You have a product and you want to sell that product to people who want your product.

Think about this...Remember, building a business takes time and patience. If you are promoting affiliate programs do not sit around waiting for someone to find your affiliate page. In addition, too many people think that once they have put up their own website the traffic is just going to pour in. This is not true as anyone with a website knows but it is a reason so many people get frustrated and quit. You need to go out and promote your website or affiliate program and you need to be aggressive in your approach.

There is nothing magical about running your Internet business. This business is run the same as any traditional business and it will succeed or fail depending on what you put into it.

Read any book or bio from anyone who has ever started and run a business and you will see that everyone put a lot of time and energy into their business. Do the same and treat your own business or affiliated businesses like your own and you will do fine.

Automate your Marketing:  Develop a Corporate Marketing Kit

How many times do you pass up free opportunities to market your business?

You know what I'm talking about, someone contacts you and wants to spotlight your business but needs a bio.

Or maybe you donated to a group and they will publish your ad, but you need to send it to them.

Do you always have a hand out when you go to a networking meeting?

Does every place that your company is listed have complete and accurate information as well as an enticing description?

If not, it's most likely because it takes time or you're not sure what to say.  Set yourself up for success and develop a corporate marketing
kit for your business.

What is a Corporate Marketing Kit

In your corporate marketing kit, you will have guidelines for different types of advertising.  If you already have a corporate press kit, some of the same information can be used for your marketing kit; however, you want to take it a step further and create ads and promotional items that can be used in a variety of settings.

Start with the Basics:

List your company name, address, contact numbers and web site address as it should be listed in advertising.  This may seem like an obvious thing; however, it is important to have consistency, particularly if you are in a regulated industry or have registered trademarks or
servicemarks.

Logo

If you have a company logo, note any fonts and colors that are used within the logo.  If someone else designed the logo for you, make sure that you have a copy of the fonts.  It makes creating cohesive ads much easier.

If possible, get the source files for the logo.  If you can't get the source files, get the logo in several sizes and formats.  If there are variations of your logo, make a note of when and how each should be used.

Company Purpose
Write down why your company is in business . . . how you make a difference to your customers and clients.  For example, Legacy Marketing provides marketing and business support services, but its purpose is to help customers grow their business.

Company Description

Write a description of what your company does, including the products and services that it offers.  Include three versions, a paragraph, a half page, and a two page description.  In the longer versions, include the history of the company and bios of key people.

Ads

Create template ads in a variety of sizes, quarter page, half page, and full page at a minimum.

Write sample ad copy for both informational and promotional appeals.

Marketing Collateral

In order to truly automate your marketing, have a variety of collateral pieces ready to go and define when each should be used.  The basics to start with are:

Business Cards

Purse Stuffer:  Examples of this would be a rack card, postcards, half sheet or quarter page flyers. It should be something that is small enough that people will pick it up and take it with them and yet gives enough information to generate interest and prompt them to visit your place of business or your web site for more information.

Informational:  This type of marketing piece would be something to give to prospective customers who have expressed an interest in your product or service.  Examples would be a brochure, pamphlet, or booklet.

Promo items:  Have a plan for when you will use promo items and the types you will offer.  If you have different target markets or product lines, you might use a different promo item depending on the venue.

Online:
In addition to helping build your business brand along with print advertising, online advertising can also affect your search engine rankings.  Your online ads need to be focused and consistent to maximize results.

If there are specific keywords or phrases that you are targeting, they can be included in the text or banner link code to build search engine rankings.

Create search engine optimized banner and text ads and specify the html to be used for each.  Make sure that all graphics and logos have been optimized for the web.

Putting the Pieces in Place:

Creating foundation marketing pieces will promote a consistent message and allow you to take advantage of those last minute opportunities.
