Cross Promoting With Recommendations
By Shelley Lowery
Cross promoting is a powerful technique used by many Internet marketers to increase the exposure of their products, services or publications. You simply decide what type of promotional exchange you would be interested in and contact fellow marketers to discuss an exchange.
The most effective technique used in cross promotions is recommendations. By providing each other with a personal recommendation you can increase your response rates tremendously.
Here are some popular cross promoting techniques you can use to boost your business:
Link Exchanges
Exchange links with web sites similar to yours, but not in competition. Many Search Engines are now utilizing a new system that tracks and ranks sites according to the number of links pointing to a particular web site. By exchanging links with similar web sites, you will not only increase your Search Engine ranking, but you will also increase your web site traffic.
Ezine Ad Swaps
Exchange subscription ads with other ezine publishers. Ezine advertising is one of the best forms of advertising on the Internet. By swapping ads with fellow ezine publishers, you can run your ad in other publications free of charge.
Subscription Exchanges
Exchange subscription information with fellow ezine publishers. Provide recommendations within your ezine's welcome message, thank you page and even on your multiple subscription ezine form.
Ezine Column Swaps
Partner with a similar publication and provide content for each other. This may be a weekly tips column, question and answer column or whatever you'd like.
Byline Exchanges
Write articles and allow them to be freely published. Exchange byline information with fellow writers and provide recommendations.
With each article you write you are entitled to include your author bylines. Bylines are nothing more than an advertisement for you, your web site, products or services.
Instead of including your standard bylines, use half of the space for yourself and the other half to promote the writer you've partnered with.
Signature Exchanges
A signature or SIG file is a few lines of information about your business at the bottom of any form of Internet communication. Exchange SIG file information with other marketers and provide recommendations.
Ebook Exchanges
Partner with fellow Internet marketers and create free ebooks to freely distribute. The ebook should mutually benefit and promote both of you while providing valuable information for your visitors.
Private Web Rings
Set up a private web ring and partner with web sites that are similar to yours, but not in competition. Provide recommendations for each site within your ring.
Ride Alongs
A ride along is any extra information (advertisements) sent along with a direct mailing. You can use this same technique with any ezine solo mailings you may run by including an exchange recommendation within your mailing. In addition, you can include recommendations within your thank you letters you send out when you deliver your products.
Upsells
An upsell is used when your customer is in the process of ordering your product. Another product is introduced for a small additional cost just as you're closing the sale. This technique is used with many infomercials when the customer calls in their order. The operator will introduce an additional product for a minimal extra charge. You can use this same technique on your order page. Trade product recommendations with fellow marketers.
Free Bonus
Free bonuses are used as an incentive to increase sales. Provide and exchange bonuses with other marketers. This technique will not only increase your sales, but will also promote your products and services.
Forum and List Moderation
Trade forum or list moderation duties. Partner with similar web sites or lists and share in the moderation duties. Place short BIOS with links at the top of the forum or within each list post.
A quality recommendation will pull a much higher response rate than just a link or banner. Cross promote with individuals you truly respect and believe in, as your professional reputation is on the line.
Cross promotions provide Internet marketers with a powerful way to reach new potential customers. There is power in number, so get out there and start cross promoting!

Importance of Using ALT Text and Heading Tags
If you have a website that you want ranked with higher rankings, there are several things you can do on your own to increase rankings. One thing you can do is double check the usage of alt text and heading tags on your sight. I've noticed by not having heading tags and leaving the ALT text blank, search engines like Google will rank you with a lower score. This has happened to some of my pages, so I am speaking from experience.
Recently I did a revamp on some of the pages on my site and noticed that my page ranking had dropped. I couldn't figure it out until finally I caught a clue, and compared my old pages with the new ones. The major difference with the pages I compared was the new page did not have heading tags, and my alt text was not relevant to the page. Those two little factors dropped my page rank by up to two points, incredible! You must be very very careful when updating your pages so this problem does not happen to you.
Below are some tips and ideas based on what Google looks for with its robots to help when you upgrade and or optimize your web pages.
First off, where does Google pull text from your page that is considered relevant? I have read from others and noticed that Google gets it's text from a combination of places such as:
1. Keyword phrase found in body text 2. META description tag 3. ALT text found on the page, most particularly the first Alt text. 4. Heading tags, once again most particularly the first Heading tag. 5. Additional heading tags on the page. 6. Additional body text found on the page. 7. Additional ALT text on the page. 8. Navigation bars 9. General body text 10. Copyright information (usually towards bottom of page).
Now that you know what Google is looking for, you need to know what to put into these areas. As it stands, I have found out the hard way that it is a must for you to use alt text and heading tags.
The text you need to insert into these areas would be the most relevant search terms that surfers are typing into the search engines that relate to that particular page. It's that easy! Not really but if you have not set your pages in this manner or if you are missing any one of the combinations you might be loosing points from Google and other search engines page ranking system. There are plenty of tools on the market that can help with page optimization. One of my favorites is Web Position Gold. Web Position Gold will generate pages that are automatically optimized. The program also has a tool called Page Critic which will analyze your existing pages and offer suggestions for better optimization. You can try the program for free at (http://www.nadmedia.net/store). If you have any questions about page optimization just give me an email, or read some of my other articles on page optimization at nadmedia.net. Happy page building!
7 Effective Homepage Tips that will have your Visitors Begging for More!
By Anthony Jewell
The truth is how you present your website will determine how customers view you and your product. This can directly translate into how effective your website actually is and whether or not you get alot of sales or just a few. Think of it this way. Whenever you go into a store you usually always go in from the front entrance, not the side or the back, but the front. Just like when people visit your website, they probably always come in from the home page and go around your site. Sometimes they may come in from another link to one of your subpage but trust me they will jump on your front page to check it out and rightly so.
The front page is where all of the best information should be. Now this is not to say that your subpages as useless and that there shouldn't be valuable information on them. I am just saying that the main page should contain timbits of all the valuable information located throughout your site. Usually your front page is the main attraction and includes features and elements that your subpages won't have. It is almost like a "wow page" full of rich content.
Here are some tips on how to impress your visitors as soon as they get to your site:
Tip Number 1: Offer something to the visitor as soon as they get to your site:
-This is important to really grab a visitors attention. Some things you may want to put at the top or near the top of your site are free offers like "free ebook" or "free domain" ect...
Tip Number 2: Give them content that is updated daily:
-Make sure you have content on your front page that is updated daily. This will not only give them something to look forward to every day but it will show that your site is updated often and gives them a reason to keep coming back.
Tip Number 3: Showcase new and featured product:
-Showcasing products on the front page will immediately get visitors interested on what you are offering. It will help show them what your site is about as well as it will make them want to browse more of your e-store.
Tip Number 4: Add highlights from other parts of your website:
Add little bits of info from your subpages to give them a view of what your site contains. For example if your site has an article section post a few new articles each day.
Tip Number 5: Offer sales and discounts on your front page:
Offering discounts and coupons will definitely get people interested in what you are selling. Saving money and getting a good deal is always a good reason to look around and purchase something off of your site. Make sure the sales can be seen clearly and do have an expiration date that you stick to.
Tip Number 6: Add content that is only specific for your front page:
-Another great thing to do is offer content that can only be found on your front page. This will give your visitors even more content to choose from without having to view it on every page. Some things you may just have on the front page are tips, news headlines or article samples.
Tip Number 7: Don't post full stories or articles on the front page but timbits of them so they click through your site:
-Whenever you are posting articles or stories on the front page make sure to post only a sample of the article. Include a "click here for more" link so that they can view the whole article. This will interest them more will have them going to new parts of your website. It will also help keep your front page from being cluttered.
