I apparently don’t have to tell you why blogs are so much better for affiliate marketing then static websites! Nor do I have to tell you about the importance of optimizing your blogs for best results. I would like to share with you what are in my opinion 7 must have wordpress plugins!

1. Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator - This plugin generates a XML-Sitemap compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog. This format is supported by Ask.com, Google, YAHOO and MSN Search.

2. Adsense-Deluxe – Place Google AdSense ads in your WordPress Posts.
Many of you are placing your adsense all around your blogs, and get good results. The only weakness to that is your ads may not be relevant to what ever happens to be on your “main” blog page at any given time. There is a better option, put the ads right in your posts. That way you will be targeting your ads to each post. This plugin is highly configurable, and it rocks!

3. Customizable Post Listings – Display Recent Posts, Recently Commented Posts, Recently Modified Posts, Random Posts, and other post listings using the post information of your choosing in an easily customizable manner. You can narrow post searches by specifying categories and/or authors, among other things. This plugin will add keyword density to your blog pages by providing a list of previous article titles in the sidebar.

4. Follow URL – This plugin strips nofollow tags from your comments and comment author URL, which are inserted by default in WordPress 1.5. The nofollow tag was intended to discourage referral spamming to blogs by killing any PR gain or being indexed by SES. A feeble attempt to say the very least. It penalizes every one! The nofollow will also discourage good honest comment posts that add value to your blog, and takes a way from the beauty of instant gratification from the blogging experience. There are much better ways to fight referral spam!

5. Bot Check – Checks for human input on comment submission. Requires minor modification of wp-comments.php (see install.txt). An image is generated with a number, if this code is entered correctly in the form, the comment will be posted. If not, it won’t. This is a much better way to fight referral spam! If you don’t like this plugin, there are tons more out there, just google it! Plugins like this one only penalize spammers!

6. No Duplicate Comments – Prevent visitors from leaving duplicate comments/pingbacks/trackbacks to a post.

7. Subscribe Me – Displays a tile with subscribe buttons. To use, call sem_subscribe_me(); where you want the tile to appear. Alternatively, do nothing and the tile will display when wp_meta(); is called.

Of course there are many more plugins you could use, last count was around 500! But these are the ones I use most often on most of my blogs.
